Amazing! Nice to see you have a proper budget for a video, even though this isn't your Big First Single yet.

Marina, I think you're so wonderfully fresh while still having lovely nostalgic qualities, you're amazingly talented with a voice that sounds like no other, you're incredibly beautiful with a brilliantly unique style and I think you're really going to go far in this crazy business called show.

However, I'm afraid I have to admit that I was a little disappointed with this video. I'd expect more from Rankin & Chris. Rankin has such an incredible portfolio, shooting such iconic shots with Vivienne Westwood, David Bowie etc etc. and this video doesn't live up to his talented eye. I really like the close-ups of you with the diamante lipstick and eye shadow - that looks really great, but the rest of it doesn't make the most of your natural beauty. It doesn't look as incredible as I feel you deserve. I just feel you need a video of a standard similar to the quality of your talent and considering it was shot by someone with that talent the video didn't deliver. The song is awesome, I love the message and the personal touch it has and the video should try to keep up.

I hope these comments can be seen as constructive criticism as that's how they are meant to be taken. I really think you're a star and your brightness will soon be seen by everyone...

On reflection, I have realised that the reason I felt so strongly about the video is that I would kill for the opportunity to direct a music promo for you and I feel that this was a missed opportunity by Rankin & Chris to really show off who you are and what you are all about. You deserve more...

"It's not how good you are, it's how good you want to be..."

I think it's perfect. I mean, pure awesomness.

Hi Marina! This song is gorgeous, and so is the video. Do you have any idea when this will be released in New Zealand? Can't wait to buy it. :)

I really want to steal the glittery diamond eyes and lips look. Fancy dress party anyone?

Gorgeous song and gorgeous video.

I'm not entirely sure what is going on there but it sure is pretty. I think the fans blowing your hair around is a bit much and makes it quite comical, really. But perhaps that is what you are going for?

Oh, and I'm sad you couldn't sneak dmuper in there. It would have really completed things.

i can't find this song anywhere on itunes! where do i get it??

Marina Diamond said...

Answer = You can't please everyone

Answer= always like knowing what you think anyway

Another answer= You have no idea how small/ big a budget is behind videos. My budget was small, seeing as it wasn't for a big single but rather a small limited edition 7".

End.

Dr. Sax said...

A small budget doesn't have to mean small ideas
A small idea doesn't have to mean small executions
A small execution doesn't have to mean small results
A small result doesn't have to mean a small reactions

The most important thing is if you like it. It's like any work of art, piece of music or work of poetry etc: If you dont like it, then it wasn't made for you.

Keep up the good vibes Marina, I know your album is gonna kick some serious ass.

GrayBabyOracle said...

Hey, Dr. Sax, ease up. My ass is serious, and I'd rather not have it kicked.

I like the video. As one of my online friends said, "Okay, I'm convinced! She's not a robot!" Success.

rrrich said...

It's awesome.

That's all that needs to be said.

Glad they let you go with I am not a Robot :) xxx

Well, it managed to avoid looking cheap. I assumed that Rankin = expensive. I guess it's all relative. We can look forward to helicopter shots, giant robots and casts of thousands for Girls or whatever the big single is then?

Kya-tic said...

Love.

Marius Moon said...

I think this video is a great achievement, as it does NOT look cheap at all. It would have never occured to me that this was a low-budget video if I didn't know you're not very famous yet, so congratulations!

I simply love the video, it's simple but beautiful and effective. MUCH BETTER than the "Obsessions" one, of course.

Marina Diamond said...

My point was not really about money.

The point of the video is it's simplicity. Not 13 giant cranes dropping lollipops on my head.

Let's leave that to the first single shall we :-)

Dr. Sax- you are great but I think you need a cup of tea!

So I just came across this video last night. I have never heard of you or your music before. I think I've listened to it, and the four other songs of yours I could root up on the interwebs, a hundred times by now. I love your voice, your style, and you amazing ability to express yourself.
You've made an impact on my life, congrats

P.S. I think the video is breathtaking

The video looked great, and matched the song perfectly.

There will always be people who claim they could have done it better, or you should have done it better, but the truth is, the only thing they're doing is writing crap on the Internet. Ignore them (and me, if you like!) and do what feels right to you. Be true to yourself and no matter what anyone else says, you'll always be right...

I just can't stop listening to your music, Marina. Every song of yours I come across I end up liking more than the last one. From Obsessions, to Seventeen, to Shampain Sleeper to Robot, you consistently top yourself.

This video is very colorful and has interesting textures in it as well. Love the Wizard of Oz subtext in there too.

Cannot wait to see what you have up your sleeve next. I may have a nerdgasm when your album has a release date.

Pudsack said...

Great video, although I think it may have been lacking some CGI fire breathing robots...but whatever.

Why doesn't Obsessions count as a music video?

Robin said...

Yeah I was wondering why Obsessions doesn't count as a video ??

Love the sparkly lips Marina ! Most splendid !

The more I watch the video, the more I like it. I showed my sister, and she clapped after it was over. Her husband also enjoyed it. My coworker said she didn't really like the song until she watched the video. She said usually videos ruin songs for her, but in this case it was the other way around.

I've been a quiet fan from the start and I love this video and think you look amazing in it. I don't know much about Rankin & Chris, and it doesn't matter who they are to me...the video is amazing, the song is amazing. Ergo. YOU ARE AMAZING. People need to drink more tea and stop analysing every f***ing little thing.

I'm now quite looking forward to the video of 13 giant cranes dropping lollipops on your head.

Hi Marina,

I just saw this video on perezhilton.com. I LOVE it - the video & the song!!!! I watched the video four times! I am offically a fan now. Will you be touring in the states?? I can't wait to buy your album!!

Best of luck to you!!!

Hey Marina. My cup of tea was most revitalising, thanks for the suggestion. Hope you've had a good weenend and made the most of the warm hazy evenings.

I would like to add that I thought your video for Obsessions was top drawer. I really liked the simplicity of it and the pay-off at the end was perfect. It was proof that money doesn't need to dictate creativity as it didn't show its cost just the great concept. I felt it really introduced you to the audience while still showing that there's more we've yet to see.

I'll stop divulging my opions now, as I understand that perhaps I'm being somewhat self-indulgent. It's just that with this blog of yours, you have given me the opportunity to vocalise my thoughts and I just cant help myself. But as I said before, you are awesome and it's only a matter of time before the world catches on...

Wow.I think your music is absolutely amazing, and has got me through some hard times. If I'm in a bad moo,d there is nothing better to do than turn on my ipod and listen to your songs at full blast! I can't wait to see you at big chill this summer...
Love this video, the close ups of you with diamonte lips and eyes are amazing. Very artistic video, but then most of Rankin's things are!
I think your lyrics are really interesting, and what an amazing voice! My favourite song probably has to be Simplify. Even though its not as well known I just like the, ahem, simplicity of it (:
I am currently listening to Hermit the frog while writing this!
Carry on creating amazing music, and I will definitely buy your album if you ever do one..
